We are Indian & Cowboy. An Indigenous-owned, Indigenous-led independent media company based in Hamilton, Ontario with offices in Six Nations and Timmins, ON.

Indian & Cowboy Creative has chosen Substack to be our home where we publish our brand of journalism, opinion writing, podcasts, video, and other types of storytelling. It’s clear that newsletters are an integral part of independent media digital infrastructure, that’s why we’re here.

To be upfront, this newsletter is a bit of a media content experiment for us (for now). We’re small and scrappy, we’re going to push hard on stories, publish our words, audio, video, and live streams here.

But we’re going to be patient with ourselves and take our time to grow into this space. It’ll take us a little while to find our footing here, but, thanks for coming along for the ride.

Here is our promise to you: we will produce stories with context and nuance, there will be absolutely no institutional filter and no echo chamber antics, and there will be no algorithm deciding what you see.

Our words will never be written by AI. We do have an AI workflow that helps us with transcripts, some of our research, and we use AI to make the heavy lift of producing work for the internet just a little more resource friendly.

We can’t wait to share what we have planned with you all.
